10 Days Uganda Congo Gorilla Safari & Wildlife Tour – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Rwanda – Kigali International Airport & Drive To The Hotel

Arrive in Rwanda – Kigali International Airport, meet our representative and drive to the hotel for relaxation and overnight

Accommodation: Budget: Hotel Chezlando – Standard room. Midrange: Hotel Chezlando – Bungalow room, Luxury: Hotel Mille Collines

Day 2: Do Kigali City Tour; Kigali Markets & Gisozi Genocide Memorial & Transfer to Goma Congo

Start the Kigali city tour at 8am after breakfast exploring the interesting city landscapes including the Kigali markets and the Genocide memorial at Gisozi depicting the dark history of ethnic conflict that left 800,000 Rwandese dead in 1994. Settle for lunch after which you drive to Congo via Goma boarder post. Enjoy the views of Rwandan hillsides and Lake Kivu en route

Day 3 : Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Congo in DR Congo & Drive to Gisenyi Lake Kivu For Relaxation

Embark on an exciting Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Congo’s Virunga National Park – the home to a section of these gorilla sub species in Congo.

Starting at 8am with briefing, you follow the forest trails in search of these critically endangered species known to thrive only in Congo, Uganda and Rwanda.

The gorilla trek lasts 2 – 8 hours spending 1 hour with the Gorillas seeing them as they forage, socialize and depict a range of their behaviors.

Retire from the activity and transfer to Gisenyi and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 4: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable NP, Amazing Scenic Views of Virunga Volcanoes & Kigezi Highlands

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast after which you set off for the drive to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Enjoy nice views of Virunga Mountains – a chain of eight mountains straddling from Uganda through Rwanda to Congo.

The fascinating Kigezi Highlands dubbed the Switzerland of Africa will usher you into the Pearl of Africa!

Day 5: Do Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Np & Relax

Breakfast at the lodge, gather at the briefing point at 8am for registration and general briefing after you embark on an adventure trek through the rugged landscapes of Bwindi with steep hills and narrow valleys in search of the Mountain Gorillas that are known to be Critically endangered world over.

The gorilla trek lasts 2 – 8 hours depending on how far the allocated gorilla family has moved and actual viewing time is limited to one hour for purposes of conservation.

Enjoy amazing sights of these great Apes, the lush flora and birds. Retire and spend the evening at leisure or take up an optional community tour to explore the local way of life.

Day 6: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park.  En-route Game Drive in Ishasha Sector in Search of Tree Climbing Lions

Enjoy breakfast & depart for Queen Elizabeth NP 218km from Ruhija and 160km from Buhoma.  Ishasha sector game drive lasts for 2 hours with chances of spotting the tree climbing lions & other wild game. Settle for lunch and proceed to upper Mweya for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 7: Kasenyi Sector Game Drive, Kazinga Channel Launch Cruise Safari & Evening Channel Track Game Drive  

Game drive starts at 7am in Kasenyi sector with impressive views of Savannah landscape and possibilities of spotting a range of wild game including; Lions, Leopard, Buffalo, defassa waterbuck, Kobs, Elephant among others.

The activity lasts 3 – 4 hours. Drive through Mweya peninsular, settle for lunch and later gather at Mweya jetty at 2pm for the afternoon Kazinga boat safari.

The boat safari lasts for 2 hours with possibilities of spotting aquatics like Nile crocodiles, Hippos and birds like the African skimmers, Cormorants among others.

The wild game drinking on the channel shores may not be missed. Upon return, do an evening game drive along the channel track for game viewing possibilities.

Day 8: Drive to Kibale National Park, Sightseeing of Rwenzori Mountains, Visit the Amabere g’ Nnyinamwiru Caves & Hike The Fort Portal Crater Lake Field 

Depart after breakfast for the drive to Fort Portal 135km about 2 – 3 hours drive. Enjoy the scenic views of Rwenzori Mountains en route and settle for lunch in Fort Portal.

In the afternoon, you visit the Amabere g’ Nyinamwiru Caves and hike the Fort Portal Crater Lake field. Upon arrival, you are welcomed by the local inhabitants of the place with deep understanding and history of the place.

You visit the Amabere g’ Nyinamwiru caves – the breast like features believed to have belonged to Nyinamwiru the daughter of Bukuku who was a self-enthroned King of the Bachwezi.

She was denied the opportunity to breastfeed her baby Ndahura as the father had been alerted that the child will take over his throne.

The milk continues to flow out of Nyinamwiru’s breasts. Retreat from this encounter and embark on the hike to the Fort Portal Crater Lake field where you traverse the challenging slopes of Kyeganywa hill surrounded by a range of crater lakes and crater hollows presenting one of the beautiful scenic sites in Uganda.

The top of Kyeganywa hill offers the views of Rwenzori Mountains on a clear day. Retreat from any of the encounters and transfer to Kibale National Park for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 9: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park & Transfer to Kampala

At Kanyanchu Tourism Center – the starting point for Chimpanzee trekking starts briefing at 8am. You go through briefing and eventually head to the forest for the 2 – 5-hour trek in search of these endangered species with nice views of lush flora, birds and other primate species.

Upon reaching Chimps, spend 1 hour with them enjoying them as they forage, mate, patrol among other behaviors.

From the activity, transfer to Kampala 326km about 6 – 7 hours’ drive enjoying the views of en route landscapes.

Day 10:  Source Of The Nile Tour & Drop Off At Entebbe International Airport

Transfer to Jinja 80km about 2 hours’ drive to explore the legendary Source of River Nile – the world’s longest River.

Take amazing photo-shoots before returning to transfer to Entebbe International Airport for the flight back home.
