5 Days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Safari & Chimpanzee Tour – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Visit Nyanza Palace & Butare Museum

Depart after breakfast at 8am for the transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park 268km about 6 hours’ drive with incredible sights of Rwandan hillsides en route.

You visit Nyanza Palace en route to explore the palace of the last Rwandan monarchy before proceeding to Butare for lunch.

You later visit the Ethnographic Museum with great artifacts detailing Rwanda’s culture and history. Proceed to Nyungwe for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 2: Do Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park & Afternoon Canopy Walk

Set off from the lodge at 5:30am for the drive to Cyamudongo forest where Chimpanzee trekking takes place.

You explore them as they forage, patrol and socialize for 1 hour. The entire trek lasts between 2 – 5 hours after which you return to the starting point and return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, gather at Uwinka visitor centre for an exciting canopy walk. It’s the first of its kind in East Africa stretching for 200m through lush Afro montane forest canopy with likely sights of birds and primates. The canopy walk lasts about 2 hours.

Day 3: Transfer to Kahuzi Biega National Park Congo & Relax

Following a relaxed breakfast, transfer to Congo’s Kahuzi Biega National Park crossing via Ruzizi 1 boarder post. Enjoy the views of Lake Kivu and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 4: Do Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park & Relax

Connect to the park headquarters for briefing and eventual start of the Gorilla Trekking activity. The search for the habituated group of Eastern lowland Gorilla is a memorable one as it provides for a special encounter with these Eastern Gorilla sub species.

The trek lasts 2 – 8 hours providing for 1 hour with Gorillas – an opportunity to view them and take lasting photo-shoots.  Retire from the activity and spend the afternoon at leisure

Day 5:  Transfer Back to Kigali
